Founders check revenue constantly: open the Stripe dashboard, wait for it to load, find the right report. A number that is simply there, on the edge of your screen, is calmer and quicker.
lumabar has Stripe widgets that do exactly that - and the same for Polar and Dodo Payments.
What the Stripe widgets show
- Stripe - your net revenue over the last 30 days: what you kept after fees and refunds.
- Stripe Chart - your revenue for the last 14 days as a line, so the trend is visible at a glance.
- The same pair exists for Polar and for Dodo Payments.
How the number is worked out
lumabar reads your account's balance transactions - the ledger Stripe itself uses for payouts - and counts only charges and refunds. Payouts, transfers and fee adjustments aren't income, so they're left out. Each day is counted in your local time zone, and the tile refreshes every five minutes.
Set it up with a restricted key
- In the Stripe Dashboard, open Developers → API keys and create a restricted key.
- Name it lumabar, give it read access to Balance transactions, and leave everything else at None.
- In lumabar, right-click the dock → Widgets… → Finance, and add Stripe or Stripe Chart.
- Click the tile, paste the key (it starts with rk_live_) and choose Connect. lumabar checks the key before saving it.
Use a restricted, read-only key - never your secret key. To cut lumabar off at any time, roll or delete the key in Stripe.
Why a restricted key
A secret key can do anything on your account: issue refunds, create charges, read every customer. A restricted key can do only what you allow. With read access to Balance transactions and nothing else, the worst a leaked key could do is reveal your revenue - and deleting it in Stripe takes a second.
Good to know
- The headline covers the last 30 days by your local calendar, not the current month.
- A refund lowers the number on the day it's issued, not the day of the original charge.
- It's built for indie-sized accounts: each refresh reads up to 500 balance transactions, so on a very busy account the 30-day total counts only the most recent 500.
Polar and Dodo Payments
Polar needs an organisation access token that can read metrics; its tile shows net revenue after Polar's and the processor's fees. Dodo Payments needs a read-only API key; its tile counts payments minus refunds, fees and tax.
Where your key goes
The key is stored only on your PC and sent only to Stripe. lumabar has no server, no account and no telemetry. More on how lumabar handles keys.
Why not just open the dashboard?
The Stripe Dashboard and mobile app are where the full picture lives - customers, disputes, payouts. The widget is for the one number you'd otherwise open them to check, without getting pulled into everything else once you're there.
Make it a founder dashboard
Put the revenue tile next to DataFast visitors, your X follower count, GitHub notifications and your Claude limits, and the numbers you check twenty times a day live in one bar. See every widget.
