The menu bar is one of the things people miss most after moving from a Mac to Windows: a slim strip across the top of the screen that always shows the time, the battery and the Wi-Fi, and holds the little controls you reach for all day.
Windows has never had one. The closest built-in option is moving the taskbar to the top, which Windows 11 allows again since its September 2026 update - but that is still the taskbar: app icons on one side, the tray on the other.
There are two ways to get closer: reskin Windows to imitate macOS, or add a real top bar of your own.
Option 1: a full macOS look
Apps such as MyDockFinder replace the taskbar with a macOS-style dock and add a Finder-style bar with system controls at the top. If you want Windows to look like a Mac, that is the most complete way to get there. See how it compares in lumabar vs MyDockFinder.
Option 2: a top bar that keeps Windows looking like Windows
lumabar is one bar you can snap to the top edge. It doesn't imitate macOS or change how Windows looks; it does the menu bar's job - the status and controls you want, always in view:
- The clock and date in 12- or 24-hour time, plus world clocks.
- Battery, with the charging state.
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, hotspot and airplane-mode toggles.
- Volume and now playing, with media controls.
- Weather, your next event, CPU, RAM and network.
- Start and your apps, if you want the bar to replace the taskbar entirely.
Set it up in two minutes
- Install lumabar and activate your license.
- Drag the dock into the top half of the screen and let go - it snaps to the top edge, and its panels open downward.
- Open Settings → Dock → Size and choose S for a slim, menu-bar-like height.
- Right-click → Widgets… and add a compact set: Flip Clock, Battery, Quick Toggles, Now Playing Mini, Weather.
- In Settings, set the Windows taskbar to Hidden if you want the top bar to be your only bar.
Menu bar features, the Windows way
| On a Mac | In lumabar |
|---|---|
| The clock and date | Clock, Flip Clock or Date |
| The battery icon | Battery, with the charging state |
| Control Center's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth | Quick Toggles: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, hotspot, airplane mode |
| Display brightness | Brightness |
| Sound and Now Playing | Audio Output and the Now Playing widgets |
| Spotlight | Search and Commands |
| Menu bar stats apps | System Stats, CPU, RAM, Network |
Pick only the ones you'd look at. A menu bar works because it is quiet - five or six tiles at the S size keep it that way.
A look that fits your desktop
Five styles: Black, White, Liquid Glass, iOS Glass and Midnight. The glass styles bend whatever is behind the bar, much like macOS's translucent menu bar. When a game or video goes fullscreen, the bar steps aside and comes back when you're done.
What it doesn't do
lumabar doesn't add per-app menus like File and Edit, restyle your windows or add a Launchpad. It is a bar of status and widgets, built for Windows.
