Using lumabar

Everything from installing to connecting accounts, in a few minutes of reading.

Install and activate

  1. Choose Buy on this site and pick your Windows version. If you are not sure, it is 64-bit.
  2. Pay on Polar's checkout. The installer and your license key arrive by email, and both stay available from your Polar receipt.
  3. Run the installer. lumabar starts on its own and docks to the bottom of the screen.
  4. Paste your license key and press Activate. Activation only happens when you press the button - lumabar never reads your clipboard.

One key activates one PC. Reinstalling on the same PC reactivates it with the same key.

Add, remove and arrange widgets

  1. Right-click the dock and choose Widgets… to open the widget picker.
  2. Browse by category or search, then click a tile to add it to the dock.
  3. Click the tile again in the picker, or the − badge on the dock while the picker is open, to remove it.
  4. Drag any widget along the dock to change the order.

Move the dock to the top of the screen

Drag the dock by an empty spot and release it in the top half of the screen: it snaps to the top edge, and its panels open downward. Drag it back down to return it to the bottom. lumabar remembers the edge.

Styles, size and clock

  • Settings → Appearance: Black, White, Liquid Glass, iOS Glass or Midnight.
  • Settings → Dock → Size: S, M or L.
  • Settings → Dock → Clock: 12-hour or 24-hour.
  • Settings → Launch at startup: start lumabar with Windows.

The Windows taskbar

While the dock is open, lumabar sets the Windows taskbar to Auto-hide (it slides up when your pointer reaches the screen edge) or Hidden - your choice in Settings. lumabar does not modify Windows files: quit lumabar and the taskbar is back the way it was.

The Windows key and the Start tile in the Apps widget still open Start. When a game or video goes fullscreen, the dock hides itself and comes back when you leave fullscreen.

Connect accounts

Widgets that read an online account - revenue, analytics, social, mail, GitHub and some AI tiles - show a sample until you connect them. Click the tile and its card explains what it needs: usually a read-only key that you create in that service's dashboard.

Stripe needs a restricted key (rk_live_…) with read access to Balance transactions. Polar needs an organisation access token that can read metrics. Keys are stored only on your PC.

Updates

lumabar checks for a new version a minute after it starts and every few hours after that. When one is out, the dock offers an Update button: one click downloads and installs it, and lumabar restarts. Settings shows the current version and checks again whenever you open it.

Updates are free for every license.

Uninstall

Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find lumabar, and choose Uninstall. The Windows taskbar returns to normal immediately.

Help and feedback

Something not working, or a widget you want? Use Feedback in the dock's Settings, or message lumabar on X.

Security and privacy

lumabar has no account, no server of its own and no telemetry. Every widget talks straight from your PC to the one service it shows - nothing passes through us.

AI limits use the sign-in you already have

The Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok tiles read the sign-in that each vendor's own command-line tool keeps on your PC - Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Grok CLI - and only ever read it: lumabar never changes, refreshes on disk or copies those files. The token is sent only to that vendor, to the same usage endpoint its own tool calls.

Keys you paste stay local

Keys for DeepSeek, GLM, Stripe, Polar, Dodo, DataFast, YouTube and the like are saved in lumabar's folder in your user profile and are used only for the service they belong to. Use restricted, read-only keys wherever the service offers them.

Easy to cut off

Remove a widget and its requests stop. Revoke a key in the provider's dashboard and it stops working everywhere, lumabar included.

What lumabar itself sends

Only your license check, which goes directly to Polar, the store that sold you the key. The weather asks Open-Meteo for your city's forecast, and guesses the city from your connection until you pick one.

WidgetWhat it reads on your PCWhere it sends it
Claude%USERPROFILE%\.claude\.credentials.json (Claude Code)api.anthropic.com
ChatGPT%USERPROFILE%\.codex\auth.json (Codex)chatgpt.com
Gemini%USERPROFILE%\.gemini\oauth_creds.json (Gemini CLI)Google (token refresh and the Gemini CLI quota)
Grok%USERPROFILE%\.grok\auth.json (Grok CLI)grok.com
DeepSeek, GLMThe API key you paste into the tileDeepSeek / Z.ai
OpenCodeOpenCode's local history databaseNowhere - read offline

Keys you paste are kept as plain files in lumabar's folder under your user profile (%APPDATA%\com.lumabar.dock), readable by your Windows account - which is why read-only keys are the safe choice.
